The Chief of Staff at the Presidency in Ghana, Julius Debrah, has confirmed that Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and the country’s Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, have died in a military helicopter crash together with six other persons on board the helicopter.
The tragic crash has sent Ghana into a state of national mourning. Ghanaians are taking to social media to express their grieves over the deaths of the ministers and the six others.
Social media in the country has been awashed messages of sorrow for the departed souls.
The plane crash happened in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The other persons who died in the crash as confirmed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, are Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye a former Parliamentary Candidate, and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of NDC.

The crew members are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The Chief of Staff says they were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi when the aircraft went off radar.
According to reports, emergency response teams rushed to the crash site following the incident.
