Ghana: Man Kills Girlfriend by Attacking Her With a Machete and Concrete Block in Yamoah Nkwanta

Police in the Central Region have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the killing of his girlfriend at Yamoah Nkwanta, a community in the Awutu Senya West District. The incident, which has shocked residents, is being investigated as a case of suspected murder linked to a domestic dispute.

The suspect, identified by police as Moses, is a resident of Oboman in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. According to information gathered by Citi News, he had travelled to Yamoah Nkwanta to visit the deceased, a woman popularly known as Sister Yaa, with the intention of spending the night at her residence.

Sources familiar with the case indicated that an argument reportedly broke out between the couple during the visit. The disagreement later escalated into violence, leading to the woman’s death. While preliminary reports suggest the dispute arose from a personal disagreement between the two, police have not yet released full details as investigations are ongoing.

Eyewitness accounts from the community suggest that the victim was attacked inside her residence before her body was later found outside the room. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have since cautioned members of the public against speculating on the circumstances surrounding the incident, stressing that only the outcome of the police investigation will determine the exact sequence of events and motive.

The Chief of Awutu Yamoah Nkwanta, who also serves as the Ogyahene of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Achiene Acheampong Kuma, confirmed the incident and his role in ensuring swift police action. Speaking to Citi News, the traditional leader said he personally reported the matter to the police after being informed of the killing.

Upon receiving the report, officers moved quickly to secure the suspect, who was arrested in Yamoah Nkwanta shortly after the incident. He was later handed over to the Awutu Ofaakor District Police Command, where he is currently being held to assist with investigations.

Police authorities have confirmed that the body of the deceased has been transported to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. Efforts are also underway to formally identify and contact the victim’s family to inform them of the incident and to support the necessary legal and burial processes.

Community members have described the deceased as calm and well-known in the area, adding that the incident has created fear and sadness among residents. Some locals have called for increased awareness around conflict resolution and domestic violence prevention, noting that similar disputes often escalate with tragic consequences.

The Awutu Ofaakor District Police Command has assured the public that the case will be handled thoroughly and professionally. A police source said the suspect is expected to be arraigned before court once investigations are concluded and the appropriate charges are determined.

Meanwhile, traditional authorities and opinion leaders in Yamoah Nkwanta have appealed for calm, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands. They also encouraged individuals experiencing relationship conflicts to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes.

The incident adds to growing concerns about domestic-related violence across parts of the country, with advocacy groups continuing to call for stronger community education, early intervention, and support systems for individuals at risk.

Police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
