Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has inaugurated the Parliamentary Museum, a landmark institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the country’s rich legislative history.
The museum, which celebrates Ghana’s democratic journey, reflects the resilience and enduring spirit of its people. During the inauguration, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the museum’s role as a custodian of Ghana’s governance story, from pre-colonial decision-making systems led by chiefs and councils to the establishment of parliamentary democracy after independence in 1957.
Highlighting the transformative influence of colonial rule on Ghana’s governance structure, Bagbin underscored how the nation’s current parliamentary democracy was shaped.
The museum transcends being a mere repository of historical artefacts. It offers an interactive educational platform for citizens, students, and researchers, showcasing the sacrifices made for Ghana’s freedom and the principles of democracy that underpin its governance.
“Our aim is to inspire pride and responsibility among Ghanaians, ensuring the values of our legislative journey are celebrated and passed to future generations,” Bagbin stated.
The Speaker also highlighted the museum’s strategic importance to Parliament, providing legislators with historical context to guide informed decision-making. He called on citizens to participate actively in preserving Ghana’s legislative legacy, emphasizing the collective duty to safeguard democracy for future generations.
The Parliamentary Museum stands as a testament to Ghana’s dedication to governance, democracy, and the enduring pursuit of freedom.
