Ghana Holding State Funeral Today For 8 Helicopter Crash Victims

 

A state funeral is being held today, August 15, 2025, in Accra for the eight Ghanaians who died in a recent helicopter crash.

The funeral which is to take place at the Independence Square in Accra, will be attended several high-profile government officials, political and diplomatic figures, traditional leaders, relatives and friends. President John Dramani Mahama is attending the funeral.

After the inter-denominational and inter-faith funeral service, Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah at the Military Cemetery at Tse Addo, will be buried.

The two Muslim victims of the crash, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, who were buried on August 10, 2025 in accordance with Islamic rites.

The helicopter crash happened in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
