Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has vowed that Accra will see major improvements in sanitation and street lighting by the end of December 2025.
Speaking at the launch of a GH¢2 billion decentralisation fund, the minister directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Greater Accra Region to prioritize the initiative over the next three months.
Mr. Ibrahim lamented the poor state of lighting and sanitation across the capital, noting that during recent inspections, street lights were functional only around the Jubilee House and the police headquarters. “In the night, the streets are dark, and in the day, the streets are dirty,” he said.
He added that a new strategy has been rolled out to fast-track results, warning that accountability would be “mandatory and compulsory.”
