The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the successful rescue of 26 passengers following a multi-vehicle road traffic accident near the popular Kintampo Waterfalls.
According to the GNFS, the incident occurred on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and involved a chain collision among several vehicles. Three of the rescued passengers sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not described as life-threatening.
Emergency Response Timeline
In a statement, the Fire Service said it received an emergency call at about 3:59 p.m. and promptly mobilised a rescue team. Firefighters arrived at the crash site around 5:24 p.m. and began coordinated rescue operations.
On arrival, the team discovered that a Mercedes Sprinter bus had crashed into multiple parked vehicles before catching fire. The parked vehicles were reportedly stationed near the roadway as part of ongoing efforts to recover a Kia Bongo truck that had fallen into a pit three days earlier.
Rescue Operation
GNFS personnel worked to safely extricate 26 passengers who were trapped at the scene amid wrecked vehicles and fire risks. The Service credited the swift intervention of its officers for preventing further injuries or possible fatalities.
Firefighters also took steps to control the fire from the Sprinter bus and secure the area to avoid secondary incidents.
Investigation Underway
The Fire Service noted that investigations have been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash, including whether traffic control measures were adequate at the recovery site.
GNFS further urged motorists to exercise caution around accident recovery zones and obey traffic management directives, especially during peak travel periods.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to rapid emergency response and public safety across the country.
