Ghana: EC To Hold Tamale Central By-Election On September 30

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has set September 30, 2025 as the date to hold the Tamale Central Constituency Parliamentary by-election.

Following the tragic death of the Tamale Central Constituency Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, it became necessary to hold a by-election in line with a constitutional provision of Ghana.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the EC issued a statement, saying the vacancy triggers the constitutional requirement under Article 112 (5) to elect a new representative.

The EC invited prospective candidates to pick up their nomination forms from its website, www.ec.gov.gh, starting Tuesday, August 19, until September 10, 2025.

According to the statement, the submission of completed forms will take place at the EC’s Tamale Metropolitan Office from September 8 to September 10, 2025, between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day.
