The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) of Ghana has extended an invitation to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the country’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Newquay Kotey, for questioning over his claimed of rejecting a Ghc 4 million bribe.
Kotey had publicly claimed that he rejected a Ghc 4 million bribe allegedly offered to him to stop the rollout of Ghana’s new digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy.
He made the claim in a recent media interview, alleging that certain powerful personalities had tried to influence him to stop the DP initiative.
The DP policy seeks to address vehicle-related fraud. It also seeks to enhance road safety.
Responding to the bribe claim, the OSP says it is seeking further information from Kotey to verify the allegation and identify those purportedly involved in the alleged bribery attempt.
