No fewer than 34 passengers were injured in a road traffic accident involving a commercial bus at Asuboi on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026.
The crash involved a KIA Grandbird 34-seater passenger bus, which reportedly lost control, overturned, and came to rest on its side in the middle of the highway. The incident briefly disrupted traffic on the busy corridor, one of the country’s major transport routes.
Emergency Response
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the Suhum Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 2:55 a.m. A seven-member rescue team, led by Station Officer II Antwi Forson, was immediately dispatched to the scene to assist with rescue operations.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the driver was trapped inside the damaged vehicle, while several passengers had already been assisted out of the bus by first responders and residents in the area. Using specialized extrication equipment, the fire crew successfully rescued the driver, who sustained serious injuries.
Casualties and Medical Care
The remaining passengers suffered varying degrees of minor injuries and were transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment. Health officials confirmed that all injured persons were receiving medical care and that no deaths were recorded in the incident.
Aftermath and Investigation
The bus sustained significant damage, particularly to its front section, underscoring the force of the impact. Fire personnel later worked to clear debris from the road and secure the area to prevent further accidents. The rescue and clean-up operation ended around 4:53 a.m.
Authorities have not yet announced the cause of the accident, but investigations are ongoing. Motorists have been advised to observe speed limits and exercise caution, especially during night travel on major highways.
