Cocoa farmers in Ghana are urging President Mahama to appoint an industry expert as the next CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). This call comes at a crucial time, as the cocoa industry is facing various challenges, including climate change, pests, and diseases .
The current CEO, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has been instrumental in implementing initiatives to boost cocoa production and improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers. Under his leadership, Ghana achieved its highest-ever cocoa production of over one million metric tonnes .
However, with Aidoo’s term potentially coming to an end, cocoa farmers are seeking an industry expert who can build upon the successes achieved so far. They want someone with a deep understanding of the cocoa industry, its challenges, and its opportunities.
The ideal candidate should have experience in areas such as:
-Cocoa Production and Processing: Knowledge of best practices in cocoa production, processing, and quality control.
Market Dynamics: Understanding of global cocoa market trends, prices, and trade policies.
Sustainability and Environmental Management: Experience in implementing sustainable cocoa practices, environmental conservation, and climate change mitigation strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to work effectively with cocoa farmers, traders, processors, and other industry stakeholders.
By appointing an industry expert as the next CEO of COCOBOD, President Mahama can ensure that Ghana’s cocoa industry continues to thrive and benefit cocoa farmers, the economy, and the country as a whole.
