The Ghana Career and Migration Fair 2025 (GCMF25), themed “The Future of Work,” was launched as the eighth edition of a flagship initiative by the Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development, implemented by GIZ Ghana and supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment. With Ghana facing a 27.2% youth unemployment rate (Ghana Statistical Service, 2023) and a global youth unemployment crisis affecting over 73 million (ILO, 2023), GCMF25 aims to connect young Ghanaians with skills training, ethical labour mobility, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Kwaku Yeboah, Component Manager at the Ghanaian-European Centre, emphasized, “This Fair is not just about jobs. It’s about access to the right skills, to the right support systems, and to opportunities across borders. It is about preparing Ghanaian youth to thrive in a rapidly changing world of work.” The event will focus on four key areas shaping the global workforce:
-
Digital Transformation: Exploring AI, automation, digital skills, and remote work.
-
Skilled Labour Mobility and Ethical Migration: Promoting safe, fair, and structured job opportunities abroad.
-
Entrepreneurship and Startups: Encouraging youth to innovate, create jobs, and scale businesses.
-
Green Jobs and Sustainable Economy: Aligning skills with climate-focused sectors like renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and waste management.
Chantel Kristin Bredua Lahmer, Policy Advisor at the German Embassy, stated, “The theme for this year’s edition, the future of work, could not be more relevant. Whether it’s the rise of AI and automation, the need for climate-resilient jobs, or the shift to remote and digital work, the labour market is evolving fast. And so must our response.”
GCMF25 will feature panel discussions, a job and career expo, an entrepreneurship pitching session, and interactive workshops led by local and international experts. Attendees will include government officials from Ghana and Europe, development agencies, private sector employers, financial institutions, training providers, jobseekers, returned migrants, and entrepreneurs.
Hamidu Adakurugu, Chief Director at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, noted, “Government has committed to creating over two million dignified jobs by 2028 and considering that every year, 300,000 vibrant young Ghanaians enter the labour market, it is very prudent to provide this enabling environment that bridges a concentrated pool of job seekers with an unparalleled access to diverse range of employers from various sectors to seamlessly interact.”
By fostering dialogue and partnerships, GCMF25 supports Ghana’s national employment strategy and aligns with global objectives, including Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). The Fair empowers Ghanaian youth to shape their careers and drive inclusive economic transformation through local and international job and training opportunities.
