Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on party members to set aside lingering grievances from the recent campaign season and embrace reconciliation, describing unity as essential to the party’s future.
Dr. Bawumia made the appeal on Sunday, February 15, 2026, while addressing supporters at the NPP’s National Thanksgiving Service held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra. The event brought together party leaders, grassroots members, and supporters to reflect on the election season and chart a path forward.

Acknowledging that campaign periods can be emotionally charged, Dr. Bawumia urged party faithful to forgive one another for harsh words and actions that may have caused pain.

“Today, as we gather to give thanks, I sincerely ask all of us to forgive each other for some of the unpalatable things we may have said during the campaign,” he told the congregation. “We must heal and move forward together.”

He noted that while the reconciliation process is still ongoing, there have been encouraging signs of progress since the elections, with many party members making deliberate efforts to reconnect and mend broken relationships.

“I have seen brothers and sisters reaching out to each other since the elections,” he said. “Though the healing is not yet complete, we have made a good start, and I commend all patriots for taking those steps.”
Dr. Bawumia stressed that internal cohesion will be critical as the NPP reorganises and positions itself for the next political cycle, adding that a divided party would struggle to regain public confidence.
