Former Ghanaian Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has accused Ghana’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of using state power to target key figures within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the President John Dramani Mahama-led government
was harassing and persecuting supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s exit from power.
He says the NDC regime has been abusing its authority to target leading party figures as well as social media influencers sympathetic to the NPP.
He made the allegation during his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
Speaking to NPP supporters, he said the recent arrests of the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, were clear signs of political persecution.
Dr. Bawumia complained that “We’re all witnesses to what is going on after we lost power. NDC is harassing, abusing, and persecuting us. Recently, they arrested Chairman Wontumi and Chairman Abronye.”
He said “They have been arresting our bloggers, TikTokers, and our appointees. This shows that we need to unite to win the 2028 elections.”
