An Assembly Member and another person have reportedly been killed in violent clashes between residents and soldiers in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The clashes happened on Monday and Tuesday in Mpatuam located within the Amansie West District.
According to multiple reports, the clashes started when military personnel confronted residents who were allegedly seeking to take over a mining concession said be owned by Asanko Gold.
Assembly Member for the Mpatuam West Electoral Area, Sekyi Michael, who confirmed the incident to the media, says one person was killed in Monday’s clashes.
He said the military returned the following day, fighting residents once again.
The clash on Tuesday, the second of its kind, allegedly resulted in the death of the Assembly Member.
