Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital Appeals for Blood Donations

The Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital (GAFCCEH) is calling on the general public and organizations to support its newly established blood bank by donating blood.

This appeal was made by the hospital’s Commanding Officer, Brigadier General Thomas Aquinas Gbireh, during a recent event.

“Blood is very essential in critical care and emergencies. There is no substitute for blood. They say water is life but blood is more life. It’s not something you can substitute anything with — so it’s important to make blood readily available”

The event was organized by Helena Brown Fafa, a staff member at the hospital, as part of her birthday celebration.

Fafa’s initiative aimed to help the hospital’s blood bank store enough blood to save more lives. Brigadier General Gbireh emphasized the importance of blood donation in ensuring the health and well-being of patients, particularly those undergoing critical care or surgery.

The GAFCCEH was initially established by the United Nations as a COVID-19 field hospital during the pandemic.

After being handed over to the Ghanaian government in February 2023, the facility has been transformed into a fully-fledged hospital providing critical care and emergency services, including dialysis, to the general public.

The hospital’s blood bank is crucial in supporting the medical care of critically ill patients. Brigadier General Gbireh urged Ghanaians to donate blood voluntarily, highlighting the significance of a reliable blood supply in saving lives.

The hospital’s administration is committed to providing high-quality medical care, and blood donations will play a vital role in achieving this goal.

Individuals interested in donating blood can visit the Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital to learn more about the process and contribute to saving lives.

The hospital’s commitment to providing critical care services to the public is evident in its efforts to establish a reliable blood bank.

By supporting the hospital’s blood bank, the public can make a significant difference in the lives of patients in need. The Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital’s initiative is a testament to the importance of community involvement in healthcare.
