Ghana and Mexico To Deepen Trade and Investment Ties

The Mexican Ambassador to Ghana, Norma Ang, has paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, where she held discussions with the Deputy Minister, Sampson Ahi who received the Ambassador on behalf of the Minister, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare on strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The visit provided an opportunity for both countries to explore avenues for strengthening trade and investment ties, particularly in areas of agro-processing, youth empowerment, gender equality, and industrial growth.

In their discussions, Ambassador Ang acknowledged the progress both countries have made in advancing reforms but urged the need to do more collaboratively to drive inclusive economic growth. She emphasized the importance of empowering young people and promoting gender equality as key pillars for sustainable development.

Ambassador Ang expressed optimism that her visit would open a new chapter in Ghana-Mexico relations, adding that she looks forward to hosting Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs in Mexico in the near future to further discussions and deepen cooperation.

Minister Ahi, on his part, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Mexico, noting that Ghana’s focus on value addition in key sectors such as agro-processing presents fertile ground for joint ventures and technology exchange.

He explained that the government’s efforts to strengthen agro-processing and agribusiness have created a need for technical partnerships and machinery procurement for some youth enablement factories built across the country, areas in which Mexico’s expertise could be invaluable.

Both sides agreed to work together more closely, with Ghana expected to furnish the Mexican side with relevant information on exactly where Ghana needs support to facilitate collaboration between technical teams from both countries.
