In a remarkable display of diplomatic prowess, Ghana has secured a 100% win at the African Union (AU) elections in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This unprecedented feat saw all three Ghanaian candidates emerge victorious, with Ambassador Jane Gasu Aheto elected to the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL) and Lawyer Kwami Edem Senanu re-elected to the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) .
The trio’s success was capped off by Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah’s emphatic win as Commissioner yesterday. This clean sweep is a testament to Ghana’s growing influence within the AU and its effective foreign policy engagements.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, hailed the achievement, saying, “We made it! A 100% win for Ghana in Addis Ababa… Congratulations to all three for making Ghana proud.” He also commended the campaign team, Ghana’s Mission in Addis Ababa, the Foreign Ministry, and President John Mahama for their efforts.
Ghana’s 100% success rate is a significant moment in the country’s diplomatic history, showcasing its ability to navigate the complex corridors of AU politics with precision and influence. As the newly elected Ghanaian officials take up their roles, expectations are high for them to apply their expertise and leadership to their respective mandates, ensuring that Ghana’s voice continues to resonate within the AU’s highest decision-making bodies.
