Ghana: 7 People Die In Nkawkwa-Accra Road Crash As Cargo Truck Driver ‘Sleeps’ Behind Wheels

At least seven persons have died in a car crash along the Nkwakwa-Accra road in Ghana, with preliminary findings suggesting that the driver of a cargo truck involved in the accident may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Africa Publicity understands that the accident occurred at Nkawada No.2 on the Nkwakwa-Accra highway. A passenger Sprinter bus and a cargo truck collided.

The accident happened on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

 

The bus is reported to have picked passengers from Somanya in the Eastern Region and was on its way to Sefwi in the Western Region when the deadly accident occurred.

Six passengers were said to have died on the spot, and the seventh victim reportedly succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital.

Aside the deceased, several other passengers reportedly sustained injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

The driver and mate of the cargo truck were not injured. They have been taken to police custody to assist with investigation, with preliminary findings suggesting that the driver of the cargo truck may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Also, findings suggest that the truck driver was unaware that it was raining at the time of the crash.
