At least two persons have lost their lives and several others injured after bloody clashes at the Accra suburb of Sowutuom during Homowo celebration.
The incident happened on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Eyewitnesses report that the fight started when some residents of Dwenewoho attempted to sprinkle kpokpoi, a traditional Ghanaian dish used during the festival.
According to eyewitnesses, local traditional leaders in the area resisted the sprinkling of the kpokpoi, with the disagreements resulting into the violent clashes with heavy gunfire.
According to eyewitnesses, for almost 30 minutes there gunshots being fired everywhere.
An eyewitness says those killed were the Obrafor of Sowutuom and the son of the local chief.
Meanwhile, police went in to restore calm.
Homowo is a festival celebrated yearly by the Ga people of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
