The founder and CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (GCYE), Sherif Ghali, has congratulated Ghana’s President-elect, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, while calling on him to prioritise youth entrepreneurship, innovation, and the Ghana Startups Bill. Ghali stressed that these initiatives would empower young entrepreneurs, drive job creation, and help to materialise the vision of a 24-hour economy in the country.

Sherif Ghali emphasised the pivotal role President Mahama’s leadership could play in shaping the future of innovation and startups in Ghana. “Your assertion to leadership is a pivotal moment for Ghana’s innovation and startups ecosystem,” he said. Ghali outlined the potential for young entrepreneurs to leverage technology, mentorship, and international best practices to achieve sustainable growth.

The GCYE CEO noted that the chamber has spent the past decade championing initiatives that connect young entrepreneurs to vital resources such as funding, regulatory guidance, and market opportunities. He believes these resources, combined with the right governance, can create a dynamic ecosystem for entrepreneurs to thrive.

Ghali’s message included a call for a comprehensive framework that will streamline support for young entrepreneurs. “With the right frameworks and forward-thinking governance structure, we can nurture scalable solutions and position Ghana as a regional powerhouse in entrepreneurial excellence,” Ghali asserted. He pointed out that small businesses and startups are critical to Ghana’s economic transformation and job creation.

One of the key elements in the chamber’s proposal is the Ghana Startups Bill. Ghali has called for swift action to pass and implement the bill, which he believes would provide the legal and financial backing young businesses need to thrive. “This bill will create an environment where young people can access funding and reduce regulatory burdens,” he added.

He went on to emphasize that GCYE is ready to work hand-in-hand with the government to bring these ideas to fruition. “By working collaboratively, we can table-charge the development of policies and programs that would unleash the full potential of our young business leaders,” Ghali said. He stressed the importance of public-private partnerships to drive economic transformation.

Sherif Ghali believes that collaboration is essential to building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, one that will foster competitiveness, innovation, and sustainability. His comments reflect a commitment to ensuring young entrepreneurs have the tools and support needed to succeed on both local and global stages.

During his congratulatory message, Ghali underscored the importance of resilience and bold innovation. He described Ghanaian entrepreneurs as capable of competing on the world stage, particularly within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). “We must empower Ghana’s entrepreneurs to be competitive, resilient, and boldly innovate,” Ghali said.

As the AfCFTA presents new opportunities for trade across the continent, Ghali urged the government to focus on equipping young entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and resources to take full advantage of these opportunities. This, he argued, will not only benefit Ghana’s economy but also position it as a leader in Africa’s entrepreneurial landscape.

In conclusion, Sherif Ghali reiterated the GCYE’s commitment to working alongside the government in realising the vision of an entrepreneurial and innovation-driven Ghana. “The chamber and I are prepared to offer our support and guidance, working alongside you to help transform our shared objective into meaningful impact,” Ghali affirmed expressing the chamber’s readyness to collaborate and support policies aimed at unleashing the potential of young people, which is crucial for sustainable national growth.

He ended his message by once again congratulating President-elect Mahama, expressing confidence that, with the right policies, the future of Ghana’s youth entrepreneurship sector looks bright. “We are excited to forge a dynamic partnership that empowers Ghana’s entrepreneurs to boldly innovate and compete on the world stage,” Ghali concluded.
