Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan President, Muammar Gaddafi, has reportedly been shot and killed in Zintan, an area near the Libya-Algeria border. 

The 53-year-old former presidential candidate’s death was announced on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The office of Libya’s attorney general on Wednesday says investigators and forensic doctors examined the body of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi on Tuesday and determined that he died from gunshot wounds.

According to the office in a statement, it was working to identify suspects and take the steps needed to bring a criminal case.
