In honour of Mandela Day, global animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS has donated 67 kennels and essential care packages to the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha on july 18. This initiative is a tribute to Nelson Mandela’s legacy of service and community upliftment, symbolising the 67 years he devoted to fighting for social justice.
“Mandela Day encourages us to dedicate 67 minutes of our time to community service,” said Fiona Miles, Director of FOUR PAWS. “By providing these kennels and care packages, we hope to make a lasting impact on the lives of these animals and inspire others to take action for those in need.”
The 67 kennels, built to provide safe and comfortable shelter, will protect dogs from harsh weather and inadequate living conditions.
Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising, Communications & Programmes Executive at Mdzananda Animal Clinic, expressed gratitude for the donation. “The donation of 67 kennels will make an enormous impact in the lives of 67 Khayelitsha dogs who will now have a warmer, safer, and more comfortable life.”
In addition to the kennels, FOUR PAWS has distributed essential care packages, including food, blankets, medical supplies, and an educational guide on responsible pet ownership. According to Miles, these packages aim to improve the physical health and overall well-being of the dogs by showing them love and compassion.
FOUR PAWS continues to advocate for animal rights and welfare through various initiatives and educational programs. This Mandela Day Project highlights their commitment to creating a world where humans treat animals with respect and empathy.
