American television host and a former MTV VJ, Ananda Lewis, has died following years of battle with breast cancer.

Ananda was 52. Her sister, Lakshmi Emory confirmed her death in a tribute she posted on Facebook.

In 2020, Ananda shared about her battle with breast cancer. At the time, she said she was suffering from stage 3 breast cancer.

In her announcement in 2020, Ananda encouraged her followers, especially women to be update on their mammograms. She revealed then that she had been delayed in getting her mammogram, leading up to her diagnosis.

She said at the time in 2020: “I need you to share this with the women in your life who may be as stubborn as I was about mammograms and I need you to tell them that they have to do it.”

She added “Early detection, especially for breast cancer, changes your outcome. It can save their life.”

In October 2024, Ananda disclosed that her cancer had advanced to stage IV.
