A devastating fire engulfed a two-storey at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Thursday night, leaving students in a state of shock and despair.
The blaze consumed the entire second floor of the nine-bedroom apartment, rendering the affected students homeless and distraught. Their personal belongings were reduced to ashes, with no opportunity to salvage them.
Despite the severity of the incident, no casualties were reported.
DO3 Peter Addai, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Fire Service, spoke to Citi News about the efforts to extinguish the fire. He mentioned that investigations are in progress to determine the cause of the fire.
Addai also pointed out that eleven rooms were spared from the fire and are currently habitable.
In response to this crisis, the Students Representative Council (SRC) of KNUST has arranged temporary accommodation for the affected students at the SRC hostel.
The council is also emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety protocols for all students to prevent such incidents in the future.
