Fievie Sogakope Chiefs Enstool Blessing Ejea as Queen Mother for Development of Tongu

Togbe Atsuga Sogah II, The Divisional Chief of Sogakope in the Fievie Traditional Area volt region Ghana and Torgbe Kosinyi Agyeman V, the Divisional Chief of Mafi Adidome on behalf of other Chiefs of Tongu Traditional Areas in the Volta Region, have enstooled Blessing Ejea as Mamaga Ama Tongu Nenyo I of Tongu.

According to the Togbe Atsugah Sogah II, the decision to enstool her came as a result of all the impactful community projects she has embarked on for the past few years in the Tongu Traditional Area.

In the words of Togbe Atsuga Sogah II, “If somebody is doing a good job, you have to first appreciate what they are doing and let them know that you really appreciate it and award them. In a chiefdom, we don’t have any award to give to anybody who is helping our community other than to give him or her a title. So by many consultation we agreed that we have to give a special title to this kind and noble woman. It is not easy for somebody to go and work hard in this cold weather and come home to support his or her community in this manner. So we decided to install her in the capacity of Mamaga Ama Tongu Nenyo i, which stands for the Development Queen Mother of our land.”

Blessing Ejea, who is a native of Luvudo Kepze in the Bamba family, is a 45-year-old mother of three children. At the age of 11, her mother took her to Germany and has been living there ever since from where she returns home often to support her community. She narrated that she has also been active in helping Africans in Germany, where she is affectionately known as “Mama Afrika” due to her social work. She runs an African shop in Germany and also serves as a consultant for the African community in her city, Geldern. Her dream is to establish a children’s home to provide a safe space for disadvantaged children and give them a better future.

Some of the projects she has embarked on for the past few years include, supporting orphans and widows, provision of laptop computers, school books, second-hand clothes from Germany and other things to support the vulnerable in the villages, and to the sick whose parents and families can’t take care of by the children she will taking care of their hospital bills take off many things she has been doing over these years.

Upon the enstoolment of Mamaga Ama Tongu Nenyo I, the jurisdiction of her influence would span throughout all the communities of the Traditional Area, said Togbe. He added that they look forward to more education, health, good water projects, child education, girl child education, support for widows, physically challenged persons and more, as she has been doing over the years.

He however lamented that, though the Volta Lake is in the Volta Region, “you would be surprised that we are suffering for water. We don’t have water to drink in some of the communities. Though electricity is generated using the water, some communities don’t have light, and this is what we are going through in our towns. The flooding has destroyed many communities in the town, but nobody talks about it, not even the government, but she(Blessing Ejea) has taken it upon herself to help our community, precisely, the Volta Region.

He prayed for the newly enstooled Queen Mother, asking the ancestors to help her so that she could get support to continue supporting the communities.

Togbe also expressed his gratitude for her impact and benevolence not just to Tongu but to the entire Volta Region. He called all the chiefs, leaders and people of the land to “support her so that she can do well because she has a lot in her that she can deliver the only thing she needs is our support we shouldn’t be an obstacle on her way, so would you all support her, so that she can bring out all that the God of our ancestors deposited in her” He noted.
