Tyrese Gibson, the 46-year-old actor and R&B singer best known for his role as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise, has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty in Atlanta, Georgia.
The arrest stems from a gruesome incident on September 18 in Atlanta’s upscale Buckhead neighborhood, where one of Gibson’s four Cane Corso dogs allegedly mauled a neighbor’s pet, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, to death while the actor was out of town.
Arrest and Legal Action
Gibson turned himself in early Friday morning, October 4, at Fulton County Jail. He was officially booked around 6 a.m. and subsequently released on a $20,000 bond, according to jail records.
Authorities confirmed that Gibson had been warned multiple times in the past for allowing his dogs to roam off-leash. In the wake of the tragedy, Captain Nicole Dwyer of the Atlanta Police Department confirmed that all four of Gibson’s Cane Corsos have been ordered to be handed over to authorities pending the outcome of the case.
The actor’s legal team released a statement expressing his “deep condolences” to the pet’s owners and noted that Gibson has been “fully cooperative” with the investigation, adding that he has since rehomed all four dogs.
The arrest has garnered widespread attention on social media, particularly given that the singer-turned-actor recently spoke about taking a “mental health break” and had been traveling, only to return home to fresh legal drama. As of now, Gibson has not publicly commented on the incident, with his team relying solely on the initial legal statement.’
