The Nollywood industry is witnessing a fresh wave of friction as rising actress Alexer Peres—the ex-wife of singer Harrysong—has publicly called out her colleague, Ekene Umenwa. The accusations center on claims of professional jealousy, character assassination, and the collapse of a close working relationship between Alexer and A-list actress Destiny Etiko.
The Source of the Rift: A Lead Role Dispute
According to Alexer, the animosity stems from a specific movie set where Destiny Etiko cast Alexer in a lead role. Ekene Umenwa’s younger sister was reportedly present on the same set but was not given the lead. Alexer alleges that Ekene, nicknamed “Madam Jesus second mother” by critics and now by Alexer, became resentful over the casting choice.
Alexer claims that despite never meeting Ekene in person or following her on social media, Ekene took it upon herself to call Destiny Etiko and “spoil” her name with damaging lies.
“Madam Jesus Second Mother”: Alexer Speaks Out
In an explosive social media post, Alexer detailed the betrayal and expressed relief that the “truth” was finally surfacing.
“Finally God has brought out the truth. Madam Jesus second mother, evil in disguise. The major reason I fell out with Destiny Etiko was her and her kid sister… this actress wasn’t happy I was given a lead role while her sister was there. She called Destiny to spoil me to her.”
Alexer also hinted at a deeper level of hypocrisy, alleging that Ekene’s sister had actually spoken negatively about Destiny to her in private. “Plus all the things the sister said about Destiny to me… Na once dem spoil my name.”
The “Unfollow” and Industry Fallout
The controversy gained further momentum after eagle-eyed fans noticed that Destiny Etiko has officially unfollowed Ekene Umenwa on Instagram. This move follows separate, unconfirmed allegations that Ekene had been “badmouthing” Destiny to other industry stakeholders.
While Alexer and Destiny were once considered close associates, the alleged intervention by the Umenwa sisters appears to have poisoned their professional and personal ties, leading to Alexer being blocked on social media.
Current Status
As of now, Ekene Umenwa has not officially responded to the “evil in disguise” labels or the specific allegations regarding the phone calls to Destiny Etiko. However, the public nature of the call-out has sparked intense debate among Nollywood fans regarding the prevalence of “gatekeeping” and “eye-service” within the film industry.
