“Everything is My Sweat”: Kemity Denies Sex-for-Roles Allegations in Nollywood

Nollywood actress Kemity has addressed recent social media allegations, firmly denying claims that she exchanged sexual favors for opportunities within the film industry. In a candid statement, the actress emphasized her history of hard work, her entrepreneurial background, and her commitment to setting a positive example for her children.

Setting the Record Straight

Responding to the “social media noise,” Kemity was explicit in her rebuttal, asserting that her career progress has been entirely merit-based.

“I need to clear this. Don’t be deceived by the social media noise. I have never slept with anyone in order to be featured in any movie. I have never exchanged s*x for opportunity.”

A History of Entrepreneurship

Kemity highlighted that she was financially independent long before her breakthrough in the movie industry. She detailed a varied professional background that provided her with the resources to pursue acting on her own terms.

  • Business Ownership: Before meeting her “boss” or finding fame, she owned and operated two wine shops.
  • Previous Employment: She also noted that she had previously worked as a receptionist.
  • Lifelong Ambition: She clarified that despite her various jobs, her identity has always been rooted in performance: “From the beginning, I have always been an actress.”

The Pivot to Makeup Artistry

In a rare look at the financial realities of up-and-coming actors, Kemity explained why she chose to learn a craft behind the scenes. She noticed that many actors were forced to pay for their own food and accommodation during productions, which began to drain the profits from her wine shops.

“I decided to become part of the crew,” she explained. “That was when I chose makeup artistry.” This strategic move allowed her to remain on film sets and grow within the industry without compromising her integrity or financial stability.

Family Values and Dignity

A significant portion of her statement focused on her role as a mother. Kemity shared that she has two daughters whom she is raising with “dignity and strong values,” noting that her public and private conduct is a reflection of the future she is building for them.

“I cannot build their future on something dirty,” she stated, reinforcing that her reputation is a legacy for her children.

Message to Upcoming Actresses

Closing her statement, the actress offered a stern warning and words of encouragement to young women looking to enter Nollywood. She challenged anyone to come forward with proof of misconduct and urged newcomers not to be misled by the idea that shortcuts are necessary for success.

“No one and I mean no one can ever come out boldly to say I used my body to collect anything from him. Upcoming actresses, please do not let anyone mislead you. You can succeed with talent, discipline, consistency and hard work.”
