Eritrea Alleges Ethiopia Making Threats and Deploying More Troops Along Border

Eritrea has complained of Ethiopia amassing troops along their border and making some threats.

Yemane Gebre Meskel, the Information Minister of Eritrea, made the claims in a post on social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).

Prior to Gebre Meskel post over the weekend, an Ethiopian Army officer, Major General Teshome Gemechu, was reported by local media as saying “access to the sea is a matter of existence. It is something you can pay any price for.”

The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, made similar comments recently.

According to the Ethiopian Prime Minister, the maritime agenda will gather pace after the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) this September, saying it “is much less than the sacrifice paid to complete the GERD project.”

Eritirean President, Isaias Afwerki, made similar allegations against Ethiopia in July this year, saying the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s statement was a “childish provocation.”
