Reggae-dancehall artist Epixode was celebrated at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) with the Music for Good Award, in recognition of his purpose-driven music and bold advocacy against illegal mining — popularly known as galamsey. Through his powerful song “Chooboi”, Epixode brought national attention to the environmental destruction caused by galamsey activities across Ghana.
As part of the honour, Epixode received a plaque and a GH¢20,000 cash prize, solidifying his impact beyond music.
Championing Environmental Awareness Through Music
Epixode’s award-winning track “Chooboi” highlights the urgent need to stop illegal mining, which continues to destroy forest reserves, pollute rivers, and endanger the livelihoods of local communities. His message echoes the growing calls for environmental responsibility and accountability in Ghana.
“Melodies and lyrics should be used to stir consciousness, speak truth, inspire hope and challenge the system that holds the people in chains. Let’s add our voice to help stop galamsey now,”
— Epixode, in a video message after receiving the award
Telecel Commends Artists Using Their Platforms for Change
Presenting the award, Telecel Ghana CEO Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai applauded artists who use their influence for positive change:
“We look forward to honouring musicians who champion positive social causes… I encourage artistes to use their star power to advocate on issues that have a profound impact on people’s lives.”
The Music for Good Award is an evolution of the previous Green Award, expanded in 2024 to include broader social impact areas such as health, education, youth empowerment, and advocacy.
