Education Beyond Walls: Six Kuje Inmates Receive University Degrees from NOUN

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has presented degree certificates to six inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja, celebrating their resilience and academic determination while incarcerated.

The degrees were presented during an event in Abuja, where the Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, commended the graduates for their perseverance.

Details of the Degrees

The graduates pursued various NOUN programmes while in custody, achieving advanced degrees across several fields:

  • Master’s Degrees (2): Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.
  • Bachelor’s Degrees (4): Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, Political Science, and Criminology and Security Studies.

In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Samson Duza, the Controller-General highlighted the commitment demonstrated by the graduates.

The ceremony underscores the successful collaboration between the Nigerian Correctional Service and the National Open University of Nigeria in promoting educational opportunities and rehabilitation for inmates across the country.
