The 9th Steering Committee Meeting of the ECOWAS Regional Stabilization and Development Fund (FRSD) was held today at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
The meeting aimed to review progress made in implementing the Fund’s interventions in Guinea-Bissau, Togo, and Benin; provide strategic guidance for upcoming implementation phases; and discuss broader institutional and operational matters related to the Fund’s management and sustainability.
Co-chaired by the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, and Mr. Christoph Rauh, Director for Africa at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the session brought together representatives from the ECOWAS Commission, BMZ, the German Embassy in Nigeria, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), and the Fund Management Unit (FMU).

Discussions focused on updates regarding the FRSD’s ongoing interventions in The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Benin, and Togo; planning for activities beyond April 2026; exploring institutional options for the Fund’s future structure; identifying potential new beneficiary countries within the ECOWAS region; and engaging non-traditional donors to strengthen the Fund’s resource base.
