East End Lions have once again stamped their authority on Sierra Leonean football, clinching the 2025 SLFA Men’s Unity Cup with a commanding 2–0 victory over Bhantal FC. The final, played at the vibrant Approved School Field in Freetown, drew thousands of fans and dignitaries for what proved to be a thrilling curtain-raiser to the new football season.
The match kicked off with both sides showing early intent, trading attacks in a tense and tactical first half. Bhantal FC, known for their youthful energy and quick transitions, tested the Lions’ backline on multiple occasions. But the experienced East End defense held firm, with goalkeeper Musa Kamara making crucial saves to keep the scores level.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 70th minute when Alusine Dumbuya curled a stunning shot into the top corner, sending the East End faithful into a frenzy. The goal shifted momentum firmly in the Lions’ favor, and as Bhantal pushed forward in search of an equalizer, gaps began to appear.
In the dying moments of the match, Mohamed Koroma capitalized on a swift counterattack, calmly slotting home a low cross in the 90th minute to seal the win and ignite celebrations across the capital.
This latest triumph adds to an already glittering trophy cabinet for East End Lions, who also claimed the 2024/25 Leone Rock Premier League title earlier this year. The Unity Cup victory not only underscores their dominance but also sets a confident tone for the season ahead.
The event was graced by high-profile figures, including SLFA Vice President Ex-Officio Kwaku Lisk and Western Area Regional Football Association Chairman Rev. Philip Buck, highlighting the significance of the Unity Cup as a symbolic launchpad for the national football calendar.
The atmosphere at the Approved School Field was electric. Fans from across Freetown and beyond packed the stands. The Unity Cup once again lived up to its name—bringing together communities, igniting passion, and showcasing the unifying power of football in Sierra Leone.
As the sun set over Freetown, the message was clear: East End Lions are not just champions—they are the pride of a nation, roaring louder than ever as they march into a new season with heads held high.
