Don’t miss Durban’s inaugural Dope Fest with top-tier artists this weekend

Adventure enthusiasts can escape the ordinary and dive into an unforgettable three-day ultimate getaway this weekend with the debut of Dope Fest.

The debut entertainment and lifestyle festival is set to take place at the breathtaking Olwandle Estate in Ballito, Durban, and is a mix of glamping and top-tier music by the ocean.

The festival will see a line-up of top musical acts including Blaxckie, Sjava, Zee Nxumalo, Oscar Mbo and Sphe & Naves among other talents.

There will also be plenty of activities for festival-goers to try their hand at.

Lusaso Ngcobo, festival representative said: “‘Dope Fest’ isn’t just a party; it’s a vibe. Designed for those who want to blend adventure with chill, and music with meaning, this event is all about good times with good people in a space that’s as Insta-worthy as it is unforgettable.”

Chapter 2, section 9

The critically-acclaimed Ovation award-winning theatre play, “Chapter 2 Section 9”, is currently on at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre until Sunday, October 13.

Directed by renowned theatre director and playwright, Phyllis Klotz, “Chapter 2, section 9” refers to the section of our constitution, which guarantees the right to gender equality and sexual orientation.

The play is based on the testimony of over forty lesbian women, their families, lawyers and the police.

By interweaving masterful storytelling, singing and music, the play talks to the heart of the most insidious hate crimes in South Africa.

The play is performed by University of KwaZulu-Natal Drama and Performance Studies (Howard College Campus) students Amanda Zuma, Aphelele Zwane, Angelique Ramjathan, Enoluthando Ngubane, Nolwazi Makena, and Thando Sithole.

The creative team includes vocal arrangement by Smal Ndaba, music composition by Clinton Musawenkosi Ndlovu.

Where: Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, University of KwaZulu-Natal.

When: Currently on until Sunday, October 13.

Maritzburg Show

The much-anticipated annual entertainment and lifestyle show is back.

The Maritzburg Show comprises 10 days of vibrant cultural performances, entertainment, and exciting family activities.

The annual event features a funfair, a dedicated children’s jumping castle area and an extensive food court that will keep young ones entertained while parents relax and enjoy a variety of delicious offerings.

There will also be live celebrity performances from some of SA’s biggest names across various genres, including maskandi, amapiano and bhangra.

Additionally, there will be a car show on Saturday, October 12, where car enthusiasts can compete in a Show and Shine competition for R250 and a Sound Off challenge for R200. Pre-booking is essential, contact Ricardo Kumarsamy on 082 518 3194.

There will also be fashion shows and a host of sporting events like professional arm wrestling and mixed martial arts (MMA) display led by Mustang Athletic’s Wayne Raman.

Raman, an internationally renowned MMA coach, promises an educational experience, featuring martial arts demonstrations and lessons on self-defence and discipline.

Then, on Thursday, October 17, there will be a Jesus Praise Celebration and the grand finale on October 20, Maskandi Day, will comprise a dynamic 30-minute performance showcasing traditional African dances, headlined by Themba Njilo’s Pride of Africa dance group.

James Martin, organiser of the show, said: “We are thrilled to have such phenomenal local talent at the show. It will be a wonderful showcase of our city’s cultural richness.”

90 Day Comedian

South African comedian Dalin Oliver is headed to Durban with his international award-winning stand-up comedy show, “90 Day Comedian”.

Oliver will leave audiences in stitches as he shares experiences from his life after spending more time abroad.

Fresh off his six-country and 14-city tour of the United Kingdom and Europe, he also recently wrapped up a 5-city tour of Australia, where he delivered gags tight enough to get past border control in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
