The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has issued a firm public warning against the sharing, downloading, or circulation of explicit videos involving Ghanaian women that are currently spreading online.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, the Minister described the videos — which were secretly recorded and allegedly distributed by a Russian national — as illegal content under Ghanaian law. He stressed that anyone who engages with the material beyond reporting it to authorities risks criminal prosecution.
Mr George spoke alongside officials from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, underscoring the government’s coordinated response to both the legal and human impact of the case.
According to the Minister, state agencies have already begun tracing and securing key digital and financial evidence linked to the circulation of the videos. He noted that investigations will not focus solely on the foreign national at the centre of the controversy but will also cover Ghanaian citizens who helped spread the content.
“Any person who has shared, rebroadcast, redistributed, or monetised this illegal material is liable under our laws,” he cautioned, urging the public to refrain from engaging with the videos in any form.
The warning follows the circulation of viral footage allegedly involving a man identified as a Russian national and several Ghanaian women, some of whom were reported to have accompanied him to his hotel. The rapid spread of the videos on social media has triggered widespread public anger and renewed debate about online sexual exploitation and digital safety.
Government officials say efforts are underway to ensure that affected women receive psychological and social support, while law enforcement agencies pursue all legal options against those responsible for creating, distributing, or amplifying the content.
The Minister concluded by appealing to the public’s sense of responsibility, reminding citizens that online actions have real-life consequences — especially for victims whose privacy and dignity have been violated.
