Rute Jota, the widow of late football star Diogo Jota, shared a deeply heartwarming tribute to her husband on the occasion of their youngest daughter’s first birthday on Wednesday. Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, tragically passed away following a car crash in July. Rute and their three children (two sons and one daughter) survived him.
To commemorate the milestone, Rute took to Instagram to share 16 photos of the child, with Diogo Jota appearing in five of them, ensuring his presence was felt on the special day.
Memories of a Loving Father
The first photo shared features Rute, Jota, and the baby in a professional portrait, with the parents both wearing pink and looking down at their youngest child.
Other touching memories included in the tribute were:
- A photo of Jota cuddling the baby, who is wide-eyed.
- A snap of the former Liverpool star carrying the baby out of the hospital in a baby carrier.
- A photo of Jota holding the baby in what appears to be a cafe or restaurant.
- A snap of the family together at Anfield last season after Liverpool won the Premier League.
Rute captioned the emotional post simply: ‘One whole year,’ alongside a heart and star emoji.
Fans immediately flooded the comments to offer their support, with messages of love and condolences: ‘RIP. We miss and love him,’ wrote one fan, while another simply commented, ‘Forever,’ accompanied by five heart emojis.
The tribute carries extra poignancy as Jota’s death tragically occurred just two weeks after he married his childhood sweetheart and mother of his three children, Rute, in Porto. Just before his death, Jota had also joked about the pressures of becoming a new father in a heartbreaking clip, saying ‘each day is a new day.’
