Diddy Slams Netflix Documentary ‘The Reckoning’ as ‘Shameful Hit Piece,’ Accuses Streamer of Using Stolen Footage

Music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has issued a strong public condemnation of Netflix and his longtime foe 50 Cent following the surprise announcement of a new four-part docuseries about him, Sean Combs: The Reckoning.

The documentary, which debuts on Netflix today, Tuesday, December 2, 2025, is said to focus on the controversial rise and fall of the 56-year-old Bad Boy Records founder.

Claims of Stolen Footage and Hit Piece

Diddy’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, released a statement to TMZ, labeling the project a direct attack and denying Netflix’s right to the material used.

“Netflix’s so-called ‘documentary’ is a shameful hit piece which confirms that Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorized for release,” Engelmayer said.

A major sticking point for Diddy is his contention that Netflix is inappropriately using footage he has been accumulating since he was a teenager, which should have been reserved for him to “tell his own story, in his own way.”

Engelmayer went on to accuse the streaming service of being “plainly desperate to sensationalize every minute of Mr. Combs’s life, without regard for truth, in order to capitalize on a never-ending media frenzy.”

“If Netflix cared about truth or about Mr. Combs’s legal rights, it would not be ripping private footage out of context — including conversations with his lawyers that were never intended for public viewing,” Englemayer added. “No rights in that material were ever transferred to Netflix or any third party.”

Director and 50 Cent’s Involvement

The convicted rap mogul, who is serving 50 months in prison for prostitution offenses, was particularly incensed that Netflix would work with 50 Cent, the In Da Club rapper who has long been his public foe.

However, while speaking to the Netflix-run publication Tudum, The Reckoning director Alexandria Stapleton defended the production, saying: “It came to us, we obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights.” She also noted Diddy’s history of documentation: “One thing about Sean Combs is that he’s always filming himself, and it’s been an obsession throughout the decades.”

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Diddy, 50 Cent, and Netflix for comment but has not yet received a response.
