Sean “Diddy” Combs is grappling with a new legal hurdle as his attorney, Anthony Ricco, has stepped down from his defense team just months before his highly anticipated trial.
In a motion filed Thursday in New York, Ricco cited an inability to “effectively serve” as Combs’ counsel, offering no further explanation for his decision.
Ricco’s withdrawal marks a new chapter in the rapper and mogul’s ongoing legal battle. Combs is set to stand trial in May on serious federal charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. These charges stem from allegations that Combs orchestrated and directed graphic, abusive sexual performances while exploiting and coercing women for years. He has pleaded not guilty, denying all accusations of abuse, blackmail, and violence.

The timing of Ricco’s departure adds another layer of uncertainty for Combs, who is already facing multiple lawsuits from victims alleging exploitation and harm. Despite the sudden change in legal representation, Ricco assured the court that his withdrawal would not delay the trial.
Combs remains in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center following his arrest last September. His case continues to unfold as both legal and public scrutiny intensify.
