Delta State University Suspends Student for Filming Dying Colleague and Posting Video on TikTok- Nigeria

Delta State University, Abraka, has suspended a 200-level Microbiology student, Ezi Ugoma, for four semesters after she was found guilty of recording a video of a dying colleague at the university’s health centre and posting it on TikTok.

According to a letter dated October 21, 2025, and signed by the institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar, Ughwumiakpor A., Ugoma appeared before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee on August 21, 22, and 25, 2025. She was accused of gross misconduct and violating the university’s matriculation oath by filming and sharing the sensitive footage online.

The university stated that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel O. Asagba, approved the committee’s recommendation that Ugoma be rusticated for four semesters, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session. She will be eligible to return in the 2027/2028 session.

The disciplinary letter described her actions as “a breach of the matriculation oath and an act of assault,” emphasizing that her conduct was inconsistent with the university’s values.

Copies of the sanction notice were also sent to Ugoma’s sponsor and other relevant university departments for record and further action.

The incident reportedly involved a student who was critically ill following an alleged abortion, whose final moments were filmed by Ugoma — a video that later went viral on social media, sparking outrage and prompting the university’s investigation.
