Ghana’s Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and the country’s acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, who died along with six other persons in the tragic helicopter crash, have been buried in the capital, Accra.
The two, who were laid to rest at the Military Cemetery on Sunday, August 10, 2025, were the only Muslims victims of the crash.
In accordance with Islamic tradition, Janazah prayers were held at the Forecourt of the State House. After the prayers, their mortal remains were interred at the Military Cemetery.
Attending the solemn burial service were Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, families of the deceased, Members of Parliament, government officials, and members of the public.
Aside the Sunday burial service, an inter-denominational state funeral for all the eight victims of the fatal crash will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
The helicopter crash which happened in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence and Environment Ministers, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others.
The others who died are: Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
