D’Banj Reveals Don Jazzy Initiated Mo’Hits Breakup, Praises Him for Handing Over Full Catalog

Music legend D’Banj has finally set the record straight regarding the infamous split of Mo’Hits Records, confirming that the decision to part ways came solely from Don Jazzy.

Speaking in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye, D’Banj clarified that the split was not due to conflict but rather differences in vision and timing, revealing a generous act of professionalism from his former partner.

Full Ownership of Catalog

D’Banj praised Don Jazzy for his character during the breakup, noting that the producer ensured D’Banj’s solo career would continue uninterrupted by giving him complete ownership of his musical catalog.

“It didn’t come from me, the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me, it came from Don Jazzy 100%,” D’Banj stated. “That’s why we’re still cool, and that’s why he gave me 100 percent of my catalog, even 10 other songs I haven’t released.”

Global Recognition and the Future

D’Banj reflected on their last project together, the global hit “Oliver Twist,” as a huge success. He believes that the breakup, despite the initial shock, ultimately contributed to his eventual global recognition and cemented the movement they had started.

“For me personally, even though it was a journey and he had his opinions, I knew that we needed to cement that global movement, and I’m glad that, in the end, God still made it happen for us.”

D’Banj concluded by asserting that their shared legacy transcended the confines of a record label: “It’s not about the record label for me, it’s about the movement and future.”
