Davido Reveals Nigerian Artists Can Earn $400K for Private Events Like Naming Ceremonies

Nigerian music superstar Davido has sparked conversations across social media after revealing just how much top-tier artists can earn for performing at private events in Nigeria — including naming ceremonies.

In a recent interview on Tap In With TT, the Unavailable hitmaker disclosed that artists in the country can be paid up to $400,000 for such performances. Davido explained that it’s common for affluent families to hire major entertainers for personal milestones, drawing a comparison to Indian culture where celebrities are often invited to weddings, birthdays, and other lavish occasions.

“You can get booked for a naming ceremony — $400K,” Davido said. “It’s just like in India; they always celebrate everything. Once you’re doing a wedding or a birthday, especially if you have money, the main thing is to invite a big artist.”

The revelation has sparked mixed reactions online. While many Nigerians expressed shock at the high booking fees, others said the figures reflect the luxury and opulence of Nigeria’s elite society, where no expense is spared in celebrating life’s milestones.

Davido’s comment not only highlights the lucrative nature of the entertainment industry in Nigeria, but also the growing demand for top artists in the private events scene.
