The Dangote Group of Nigeria has expressed deep sadness over the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Nigerian actress and reality TV star, Phyna. Ruth was recently knocked down by a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State of Nigeria and had one of her legs amputated.

In statements separately issued by Dangote Group and the lawyers of Ruth and her family, Eko Solicitors & Advocates, it was announced that she died on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

According to the Dangote Group’s statement, management and staff of the company were “deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of out trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

The statement added that “On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.”

Call for Justice

Earlier, Phyna had passionately called for justice after her sister’s legs were crushed by the truck, leading to amputation. What was meant to be a time of celebration after Ruth’s graduation turned into tragedy.

In an emotional video shared online, Phyna broke down in tears, accusing the Dangote Group of showing indifference to her sister’s plight. She alleged that despite being informed, no representative of the company visited Ruth in the hospital immediately after the accident.

According to Phyna, when the family went to the police station to follow up on the case, they were told the Dangote manager was “on his way.” However, she claimed the manager went directly to the police station instead—to check on the truck driver involved in the accident—rather than visiting the victim.

Phyna also revealed the extent of her sister’s suffering, explaining that doctors had to surgically open Ruth’s stomach to manually remove waste because she was unable to relieve herself naturally.

However, in its announcing Ruth’s death, Dangote Group clarified that “Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family.”

The statement added that “arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”
