Courts Order Deportation of 68 Foreign Nationals from Ashanti Region, Ghana

Ghanaian authorities have deported 68 foreign nationals from the Ashanti Region after convictions and rulings by various courts over offences including prostitution, fraud, and other criminal activities.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Thursday, December 18, 2025. According to him, the largest group affected were Nigerians, numbering 42, followed by 13 Cameroonians, seven Benin nationals, three Ivorians, and three Burkinabe nationals.

Court-Backed Immigration Action

Mr. Amoakohene explained that the deportations were carried out following due legal processes and court decisions involving offences linked to Q-Net operations, prostitution-related activities, and other crimes deemed to be in violation of Ghana’s laws.

“A total of 42 Nigerians, 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals, and seven Benin nationals have been deported to their respective countries after various court rulings,” he stated.

Commendation for Security Agencies

The Regional Minister praised the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for executing the deportations professionally and in line with the law, stressing that human dignity and due process were respected throughout the exercise.

“I commend the Ghana Immigration Service for its professionalism, diligence, and firm commitment to enforcing our immigration laws. Their collaboration with the courts and other security agencies continues to enhance public safety and preserve law and order in the region,” he added.

Broader Regional Context

The deportations come amid heightened enforcement of immigration and criminal laws across parts of Africa and beyond, with foreign nationals increasingly facing scrutiny for transnational crimes. Authorities in Ghana say the action is part of broader efforts to curb organised crime, protect vulnerable persons, and maintain public order, particularly in urban centres.

Nigerians Face Arrests Abroad

Separately, reports in late November indicated that at least 50 Nigerians were arrested in India during one of the country’s largest coordinated operations against a transnational narcotics and money-laundering network. According to Indian media, including NDTV, the crackdown was led by the Delhi Police in collaboration with the Telangana Police’s EAGLE unit.

The operation reportedly followed months of intelligence gathering and involved simultaneous raids across several cities, targeting a cartel allegedly involved in methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking, as well as hawala-based financial transactions.

Ghanaian authorities say they will continue to work with the courts and security agencies to enforce immigration laws, while urging foreign nationals living in the country to abide by local regulations.
