Chelsea Football Club have initiated discussions with Olympique Lyon regarding the availability of 20-year-old midfielder Malick Fofana, as confirmed by The Athletic on June 16, 2025. The Blues are targeting the winger as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho before the 2025 transfer window closes.
Fofana, who moved to Lyon from Belgian club Gent in January 2024, is contracted until 2028. In the 2024-25 season, he scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 side.
Chelsea also approached Borussia Dortmund for Jamie Gittens as a Sancho replacement before the FIFA Club World Cup but failed to secure a deal before the pre-tournament transfer window closed on June 10, 2025. However, they successfully completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town ahead of the tournament.
