Passengers flying out of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday (July 16, 2024) evening experienced delays due to a disruption in the check-in systems at Terminal 3.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) in a statement confirmed that the issue occurred around 7:51 pm on July 16th and lasted for approximately an hour. This resulted in delays for passengers checking in and impacted airline turnaround times.
The cause of the disruption was identified as a failure in the fibre optic system.
GACL clarified that this was not due to a power outage, but rather ongoing excavation works by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) along the fibre optic path between Cantonments and Teshie Nungua.
According to GACL, passengers were kept informed throughout the incident with regular announcements. The company also highlights that they were able to manage the situation effectively by utilizing backup internet services. All airlines were able to depart for their respective destinations eventually.
GACL management expressed their sincere apologies to all passengers affected by the downtime. They emphasized their commitment to providing a seamless travel experience at all GACL-operated airports.
