The President of Chad, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, has met with Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Abuja.

Both leaders met at Aso Rock on Thursday, April 2, 2026, to discuss regional security, terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin, and bilateral ties.

The visit marks Déby’s first official trip to Nigeria since Tinubu attended his inauguration in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital, on May 23, 2024.

Déby, aged 42, came to power after the death of his father, President Idriss Déby Itno, who was killed by rebels on April 20, 2021, while commanding troops on the frontline during the Northern Chad offensive.
