The Black Stars, Ghana’s national football team, have joined the call for peace ahead of the December 7 general elections, urging Ghanaians to uphold unity and tolerance during this crucial period.
In a two-minute video shared on their official social media platforms, key players including Mohammed Kudus and Gideon Mensah, along with head coach Otto Addo, delivered heartfelt messages promoting calm and understanding before, during, and after the elections.
Gideon Mensah emphasized the importance of safeguarding Ghana’s democracy, saying, “As we go into the 2024 elections, let’s remember the importance of peace, unity, and democratic values in our country. The elections present the opportunity for the citizens to shape the country as they want it, so I urge everyone to exercise patience, peace, and also value each and everyone’s opinions. Let peace reign.”
Mohammed Kudus echoed this sentiment, reminding citizens of their shared identity beyond political affiliations. “As you know, the 2024 election is around the corner, and I’m here to urge for peaceful elections because we are all one in the country before and after the elections. Wish you all well and have a peaceful election,” Kudus said.
The team collectively appealed to Ghanaians to avoid actions that could spark misunderstandings or violence, stressing the need to protect Ghana’s democracy as the country decides its next leaders.
Ghana will head to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in a highly anticipated election to choose a president and members of parliament. The contest is expected to be fiercely competitive, with all eyes on the country to maintain its reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
