Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has confirmed her relocation to New York City, citing the move as a strategic step to enhance her global career prospects. The 23-year-old singer has been residing in the American city for less than two months, finding comfort in its vibrant energy and substantial African community.
During a recent interview, Ayra Starr revealed that New York’s resemblance to Lagos, her hometown, has facilitated a surprisingly seamless transition compared to other places she has traveled.
Finding Home in the Diaspora
Ayra Starr noted that the city’s speed, energy, and cultural rhythm are reminiscent of Lagos, creating a familiar and supportive environment crucial for her career.
“New York reminds me so much of Lagos. So it feels like home. There are a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so it feels like home,” she said.
