Arsenal Confirm Takehiro Tomiyasu’s Departure After Contract Termination

Arsenal have officially confirmed that defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has left the club following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

The 26-year-old Japanese international joined the North London side from Bologna in August 2021 and made 84 appearances across all competitions. A versatile and dependable presence in defence, Tomiyasu quickly became a fan favourite at right-back, earning Arsenal’s Player of the Month award in his debut September and again in October 2023.

However, injuries significantly disrupted his progress in recent seasons. The defender made only a single substitute appearance during the last campaign, prompting discussions between the club and player about his future. The decision was ultimately made to part ways, allowing Tomiyasu to pursue the next phase of his career.

Tomiyasu began his professional career at J1 League side Avispa Fukuoka before moving to Europe in 2018 with Belgian club Sint-Truiden, where his impressive performances earned him the club’s Player of the Season honour. His progress caught the attention of Serie A side Bologna, which eventually led to his move to the Premier League.

Arsenal expressed gratitude for Tomiyasu’s commitment and professionalism throughout his time at the Emirates and wished him and his family well for the future.
